How to Send Leads from Google Sheets to Swivel with Zapier
Learn how to send leads from Google Sheets to Swivel using Zapier. Set up your spreadsheet, connect your accounts, map lead information, and automatically create new Swivel contacts from new spreadsheet rows.
Overview
Section titled “Overview”You can use Zapier to automatically create new Swivel contacts from leads stored in a Google Sheet.
The integration works like this:
Google Sheet → Zapier → Swivel Contact
Once the connection is set up and turned on, each new row added to your Google Sheet can be sent to Swivel and created as a new contact.
This article explains how to set up Google Sheets and Swivel in Zapier.
If you already have a list of contacts that you want to add to Swivel all at once, see Import Instructions.
Before You Begin
Section titled “Before You Begin”Make sure you have:
- A Google account with access to the spreadsheet containing your leads.
- A Zapier account.
- A Swivel account.

If you haven’t connected Swivel to Zapier before, see Connect Swivel to Zapier.
Prepare Your Google Sheet
Section titled “Prepare Your Google Sheet”Before creating your Zap, make sure your leads are organized in a Google Sheet.
Use the first row for your column names, with each lead on its own row below.
For example:
| Column | Example |
|---|---|
| First Name | Marcus |
| Last Name | Delgado |
| marcus@example.com | |
| Phone Number | 512-555-0147 |
| City | Austin |
| State | TX |
| Lead Source | Website Form |
First Name and Last Name are required when creating a Swivel contact.
You can add additional columns for other Swivel contact information.

Section titled “1. Choose Which Information to Send”Zapier will show the fields available when creating a Swivel contact.
For each Swivel field you want to use:
- Select the field.
- Choose the corresponding column from your Google Sheet.
At a minimum, map:
| Swivel Field | Google Sheet Column | Required? |
|---|---|---|
| First Name | First Name | Yes |
| Last Name | Last Name | Yes |
You can also map fields such as Email, Phone Number, Address, Lead Source, Contact Category, and other contact information.
Leave a field blank if you don’t have that information or don’t want to add it to Swivel.
2. Use a Fixed Value
Section titled “2. Use a Fixed Value”You can enter a value directly into a Swivel field instead of using a column from your spreadsheet.
This is useful when the value is the same for every contact.
For example, if every lead in your spreadsheet came from your website, you can enter Website Form directly in the Lead Source field instead of adding a Lead Source column to your spreadsheet.
Test the Swivel Connection
Section titled “Test the Swivel Connection”1. Create a Test Contact
Section titled “1. Create a Test Contact”After mapping your fields:
- Select Continue.
- Select Test step.

Open Swivel and search for the contact to make sure the information was added correctly.
Turn On Your Zap
Section titled “Turn On Your Zap”1. Name and Publish Your Zap
Section titled “1. Name and Publish Your Zap”Give your Zap a name that makes it easy to identify, such as:
Google Sheets Leads → Swivel Contacts
Then select Publish.
Your Zap must be published before it will process new rows.
What Happens After You Publish?
Section titled “What Happens After You Publish?”Once your Zap is published, each new row added to your Google Sheet can be sent to Swivel and created as a new contact.
Zapier checks Google Sheets on a schedule, so the contact may not appear in Swivel immediately.
Each Row Creates a New Contact
Section titled “Each Row Creates a New Contact”This Zap uses Create Contact, which creates a new Swivel contact each time the Zap processes a row.
It does not check whether a matching contact already exists in Swivel.
To avoid duplicate contacts:
- Add each new lead as a new row.
- Avoid repeatedly adding the same lead to the spreadsheet.
- Don’t delete and re-add existing rows unless you want them processed again.

If you’re sending a Contact Status, make sure you’re also sending a Contact Category.
I’m Getting Duplicate Contacts

Check whether the same lead was added to the spreadsheet more than once or whether an existing row was deleted and added again.
A Date Didn’t Come Through
Section titled “A Date Didn’t Come Through”Make sure the date is formatted as MM/DD/YYYY in your spreadsheet.
A Phone Number Didn’t Come Through
